Now that I have a rigged puppet, I can play with trying to make the movement feel like a stop motion. My first test is animating at 6 frames per second. This translates to roughly shooting on 5s for animation. I also took off the automatic ease in / ease out that Maya puts on. I also would throw in a few randomly moved frames if I saw too much of a distance between keyframes.
The results are promising, but they are not where I would like them to be yet. I feel like its close to the style of movement found in stop motion, but it looks a little too much like its lagging instead of having less keyframes. I’m going to explore a few other techniques to get the look closer to what I want.
